A team of civil engineering students is in the process of designing a new intersection in downtown Evansville. The Fulton Avenue – Lloyd Expressway (Indiana State Road 62) Intersection has reached its capacity and a new interchange design is required. The Indiana Department of Transportation has conducted a study to evaluate design alternatives. An overpass has been recommended, but the type and size of the overpass has not been determined. The civil engineering students are analyzing several overpass options and developing a geometric design to increase the capacity of the interchange. This challenging civil engineering design project provides students with an opportunity to work on a real-world project and apply knowledge that they have obtained during their academic career at the University of Evansville.
