Evansville Westside Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour
April 4, 2008

A group of civil engineering students from the University of Evansville toured the Westside Wastewater Treatment Plant on March 20, 2008. The tour was hosted by Bowen Engineering Corporation, contractor for the 20 million dollar plant expansion. The project will increase capacity and reduce combined sewer overflows (CSO) into the Ohio River. Students donned hard hats and walked through the construction site where a new Biostyr™ Biological aerated filter is being built. This unique innovative technology will allow the plant to expand its capacity by 50%. Once complete, Evansville will be home to the first biologically aerated filter in Indiana. This filter operates at a higher removal rate than traditional processes, takes up less area, treats more water, and will reduce environmentally damaging CSO flows to the Ohio River.
