Jarred Ashmore Memorial Fund Established
The University of Evansville has established a memorial fund for Jarred Ashmore, a 2006 civil engineering graduate of the University of Evansville. Jarred died on August 10, 2007 in a tragic construction accident at a Gibson County coal mine approximately 30 miles north of Evansville. Jarred worked for Frontier-Kemper Constructors and he was involved in a project to construct a 600 ft deep air shaft at the mine. Jarred was a member of the 2006 senior class that designed a mechanically stabilized railroad embankment for the U.S. Navy at the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center in Martin County, Indiana. His team later competed in the state American Society of Civil Engineers design competition at Indianapolis. According to Brian Swenty, Chair of the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department, “Jarred was an outstanding individual and a very good engineer. He was friendly, had a great attitude and was always willing to lend a hand. I am pleased that a memorial fund is being created in his honor.” Contributions to the Jarred Ashmore Memorial Fund can be sent to the University of Evansville’s Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department, 1800 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47722. ![]() |
