Jarred Ashmore dies in Construction Accident
August 13, 2007

Jarred Ashmore, a 2006 civil engineering graduate of the University of Evansville died Friday, August 10 in a tragic construction accident at a Gibson County coal mine approximately 30 miles north of Evansville. Jarred worked for Frontier-Kemper Constructors and he was involved in a project to construct a 600 ft deep air shaft at the mine.

Jarred was a member of the senior design class that designed remedial measures to a failed railroad embankment at the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center in Martin County, Indiana. His team later competed in the state American Society of Civil Engineers design competition at Indianapolis. According to Brian Swenty, Chair of the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department, “Jarred was a good student and an outstanding person. He was the epitome of the type of student we have come to know and love at the University of Evansville....great attitude, good work ethic, friendly, good team player and someone who was always willing to lend a hand.”

Jarred will be missed by the University of Evansville’s civil engineering program and especially by those who knew him well.
