Engineer Stundents Visit the McAlpine Locks and Dam Construction Site
October 17, 2006

Professor Jim Allen and eighteen civil engineering students from the University of Evansville visited the McAlpine Locks and Dam construction site in Louisville, Kentucky. The Corps of Engineers began constructing a new 1200 ft by 110 ft auxiliary lock at the site in 1996. Students visiting the new lock were impressed with the overall size and scope of the project, especially the size of the conduits used to fill and drain the lock. Construction is scheduled to be complete by 2008.

The trip was co-sponsored by the ASCE student chapter and Chi Epsilon, the civil engineering honor society.
