Civil Engineers Erect Steel Sculpture
Civil engineering students at UE worked yesterday and today erecting the steel beams on the sculpture in the courtyard behind Koch Center for Engineering and Science. Steel for this project was donated by Civez Steel Company, of Lafayette, Ind., and the concrete for the base was poured last February. Brian Swenty said UE is following the tradition of many colleges of engineering, which erect steel sculptures on campus. A unique aspect of UE’s sculpture, however, is that it demonstrates several of the 40 different connections used in the steel construction of the newest addition of Koch Center for Engineering and Science. Although structural work on the sculpture is nearly complete, students will give it a coat of paint during the spring semester.
