UE Chi Epsilon Installs First Class
On Saturday, January 15, 2005, the University of Evansville chapter of Chi Epsilon, the national civil engineering honor society, was installed in Dunigan Hall. Chi Epsilon was founded in 1922 at the University of Illinois and has since grown to include 127 chapters across the nation. The UE chapter will be the 128th chapter, the fourth chapter in Indiana, joining Purdue University, the University of Notre Dame, and Tri-State University. Representatives from the National Council performed the installation and initiation rituals: Dr. Thomas B. Nelson, University of Wisconsin-Platteville (President and North Central District Councillor), Dr. Robert L. Henry, University of Texas at Arlington (National Secretary Treasurer and Southwest District Councillor) and Dr. Eugene A. Glysson, University of Michigan (Great Lakes District Councillor and Past President). UE faculty members Dr. Brian Swenty and Dr. Mark Valenzuela, both current members of Chi Epsilon, assisted in the installation. Seventeen UE candidates, consisting of current students and alumni, were initiated into Chi Epsilon. In addition, one faculty member, Mr. Chris Gwaltney, was initiated as a member of the national society. The society is advised by Mr. Chris Gwaltney and Dr. Mark Valenzuela. Current students were initiated are: Rachel Wright (president), Amy Lochmondy (vice president), Brittney Harlan (secretary), Julie Elpers (treasurer), Kerry Hall (editor) and David Haas (marshall). Alumni who were initiated are: Shaun Cofer, Brad Eddings, Emily Gwaltney Fronheiser, Liz Carstens Kerr, Scott Lecher, Brennan McReynolds, Pat Meunier, Don Oliphant, Andy Scales, and JD Sloan. Candidates to Chi Epsilon are selected from the top one-third of the junior class and the top one-third of the senior class. |
