Engineering Programs Re-Accredited
August 22, 2003

The Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) has granted full accreditation to all of the University of Evansville's engineering programs – mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering and computer engineering.

"We are pleased to learn that once again the University of Evansville's Engineering and Computer Science programs have been accredited, said Philip Gerhart, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. "In many states you can’t receive your registration as a professional engineer without graduating from an accredited program. It is also necessary for admittance to graduate school and it enhances the transferability of course work from one institution to another," he added.

Gerhart said the commission's report was especially complimentary of the collegial relationship among the faculty, administration and students at UE and the amount of student access to faculty members regardless of which discipline they are in. "Also noted was the University's commitment to preparing the students to work in the global marketplace," Gerhart said. They indicated that it was beneficial that UE's engineering students participate in the world cultures sequence for general education and many study abroad at the University’s British campus – Harlaxton College, providing diversity that will help them when they enter the global engineering market. "Those are things that we are very proud of and that make us much different than other schools I am familiar with," Gerhart said.

A list of accredited programs is published annually by ABET in their annual yearbook and online at www.abet.org
